A ROBINA university student is enjoying the high life in Sydney as she performs with 1500 other dancers.

Alex Saragossi, 21, was selected to perform with the OzScot Australia Highland Dancers in The Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

“I have danced ballet, tap and jazz since I was three years old and I started highland dancing when I was 9,” Ms Saragossi said.

“I started highland dancing quite late, most people start when they are about three.

“The ballet school I went to in Brisbane shut down, so I then found highland dancing.”

The Bond University student said she graduated from a sports science degree last year and would start a Doctorate of Physiotherapy in May.

Ms Saragossi has competed internationally and in 2005 she participated in the first Military Tattoo in Australia.

“I love the atmosphere. This type of show is different to competition,” she said.

“Not everyone can get to every competition so shows are really good to catch up.

“I have met people from all over the world and Australia.”

At 21, Ms Saragossi is almost at retiring age for a typical highland dancer.

“Highland dancing is great for strength fitness but people usually dance between the age of three and 23,” she said.

“People retire early because of the demand on the body.

Ms Saragossi will be in Sydney until Tuesday, February 9, performing in the show.

OzScot Australia will provide 100 dancers aged from 14 to 25 for The Edinburgh Military Tattoo – Celebrating 60 Years of Valour, Mateship, Glory.

Based in Bathurst, New South Wales, OzScot Australia was established in 2000.
