THE southbound lanes of the Tugun Bypass were closed about 7am today after an over-height vehicle entered the tunnel.

A Department of Transport and Main Roads spokeswoman said the height sensors on the southbound lanes detected the vehicle and the tunnel was closed to prevent potential damage.

Traffic Response Officers attended the scene and southbound traffic was diverted along the Gold Coast Highway.

Northbound traffic was not affected by the closure.

The southbound tunnel was reopened after about 10 minutes. Some delays were experienced.
