GOLD Coast Mail’s butcher who wants a wife, Phillip Smith says he does not want another Valentine’s Day without a girl to share the day.

Phillip’s Valentine’s Day last weekend consisted of dinner at Hungry Jack’s and watching television.

“My ideal Valentine’s Day would be a picnic beside the water somewhere with a bottle of wine and some snacks,” he said.

Phillip said he preferred not making plans and to “see what happens”.

“It’s not that I don’t like to do romantic things but when I plan things nothing really goes to the plan,” he said.

“So I don’t really plan things now.

“But maybe next Valentine’s Day I’ll have someone to share it with.”

Phillip said he was excited about the applications coming through.

“I’m looking forward to actually meeting people and to go to the restaurant,” he said.

“I’m a bit nervous but I’m looking forward to the whole thing.”

With friends and family finding out about his quest, Phillip said all had been supportive.

“A lot of people have found out through Facebook because my sister-in-law put it up,” Phillip said.

“There have been a few cheeky remarks but everyone is supportive.

“I think they are all interested to see what happens.”

Outside of cyberspace, customers at Phillip’s Gold Coast Butchery, Mad Butchers, had also shown interest in the campaign.

“Customers have come in and the first thing they say is ‘have you found a wife yet?’” he said.

“Other butchers I know have been sending me messages too, I think they’re jealous.

“My parents are enjoying it and mum is sending the articles back to her mum in New Zealand.”
