BURLEIGH butcher Phillip Smith may have met the girl of his dreams last week but has a few more dates to come before he can be sure.

The Gold Coast Mail’s Butcher Wants a Wife participant had his first date with a finalist last Wednesday.

After four weeks of applications and promotion, the Gold Coast Mail may have helped Phillip on a path to find love.

Phillip said after a fire damaged his butchery two weeks ago, the staff had worked tirelessly to re-open on Tuesday and he made it to his date on Wednesday evening.

Biunka van Kerkvoort joined Phillip at Currumbin RSL’s Alleys Restaurant in the first of four finalist dates for Butcher Wants a Wife.

After the first confirmed finalist, Stephanie Bewes, pulled out at the last minute, Phillip was left with four finalists to date before he invites one woman on a weekend away, provided by Tweed River Cruise and Travel in conjunction with Couran Cove Island Resort.

Each week, the Gold Coast Mail will update readers on Phillip’s dates.

First impression of Biunka:

Very nervous but she seemed quite nice and friendly.

Did your impressions change by the end of the date?

No, impressions didn’t really change, we both agreed it was important to be friends before anything got serious.

Did anything surprise you about Biunka?

I was a bit worried about ordering wine for her because I know nothing about wine but then she told me she drinks rum and coke. So that was a nice surprise because I drink Bourbon and coke.

What was the most romantic thing that happened on the date?

We shared a seafood platter for two.

How were your nerves throughout the evening:

I was a bit nervous to begin with but I relaxed more later.

Did you find you had much in common:

Yes, she works in a deli so I guess we have meat in common and we talked about a lot of things we both liked.

Were there any awkard moments:

There were a couple of awkard moments when we had nothing to say but it was all right, they weren’t bad silences.

Any other comments:

We both said we would like to do it again so that was good. I’m also looking forward to meeting the next date

First impression of Phillip:

I thought he looked laid back and really good looking. He was also very polite.

Did your impressions change by the end of the date?

No, not at all. I had a stronger feeling that we could hit it off together.

Did anything surprise you about Phillip?

There were a few but nothing I couldn’t handle. I didn’t realise he was so short but it’s perfect because he’s the same height as me. He was also really easy to talk to and very different to the guys I know.

What was the most romantic thing that happened on the date?

He ordered dinner for me. You don’t get that often anymore.

How were your nerves throughout the evening:

I was so nervous when I was signing on I was shaking too much to sign my name properly.

Did you find you had much in common:

Yes, we had a lot in common.

Were there any awkard moments:

I don’t think there were many awkard moments. We were both a little nervous and sometimes ran out of things to say.

Any other comments:

I would definitely love to do it again.
