GOLD Coast rugby players answered the Cancer Council's Call To Arms sporting yellow armbands during Round 14 matches.

A spokeswoman said premier teams across the Gold Coast and Brisbane took part in the awareness campaign for male related cancers.

The Gold Coast defeated Norths 20 to 18 in the Round 14 match, played at Albert Park in Surfers Paradise on Saturday, July 15.

“Call To Arms is a positive way to raise awareness and show solidarity for men with cancer, which is why Queensland Rugby and the premier clubs are proud to offer their support,” she said.

The Cancer Council's Call to Arms campaign has run nationally since 2006.

More than $700,000 has been raised to help prevent and detect cancers in men, find new treatments, as well as support men in need by funding Cancer Council's important cancer research, prevention and support programs.

The campaign is open to all football codes and all ages, with money raised going directly to cancer research, education and support programs.

Last year 119 clubs took part and raised more than $67,000.
